My summer professional theatre courses offer a variety of opportunities to explore various performance techniques and styles in an intimate, personal setting. Classes are available for actors with minimal experience as well as seasoned professionals.
Class sizes are limited to 12 to ensure hands-on interaction. Participants must be at least 16-years-of-age to attend. Classes offered in conjunction with StageWest theatre company and held in StageWest's rehearsal hall located in the lower level of the Fitch building, 304 15th St. downtown Des Moines (SW corner of 15th & Walnut).
There are currently no sessions being offered. Check back in the spring of 2008 for a complete schedule. Feel free to contact me if you'd like private coaching. In the meantime, take a look below at the classes that were offered last year.
SESSION
I
Advanced Acting
June 4 – July 9 (6 weeks)
Mondays, 6:30-9 p.m.
For anyone who has been performing and or taking classes and wants to deepen
his/her skills. Includes scene study and monologue work.
Cost: $120 ($110 if registering by May 11)
Acting Shakespeare
June 2 – July 7 (6 weeks)
Saturdays, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
For all levels. Participants will learn how to look for clues in Shakespeare's
text and how to transfer that knowledge from
the page to the stage.
Cost: $100 ($90 if registering by May 11).
Audition
Seminar
June 2 – July 7 (6 weeks)
Saturdays,1-2 p.m.
For anyone interested in sharpening audition skills. Includes monologue coaching,
cold readings and song coaching for any musical theatre performers.
Cost: $100 ($90 if registering by May 11).

July 16 – August 13 (5 weeks)

taking classes and is interested in sharpening audition skills. Includes monologue
coaching, cold readings and song coaching for any musical theatre performers.
Cost: $100 ($90 if registering by June 22).

Stage
Combat
July 14 – August 18 (6 weeks)
Saturdays,1-2 p.m.
For all levels. Learn basic stage combat moves for unarmed and rapier. Karla
is a member of the Society of American Fight Directors and has been certified
in six weapons.
Cost: $100 ($90 if registering by June 22).

Private
Coaching
For anyone who wants intense coaching. Useful for audition preparation, getting
rid of “bad habits” and career counseling.
$45 hour.
